Wimbledon Case Study – Large London Plane Crown Reduction

We are fully Qualified & Insured Tree Surgeons Covering Surrey, Berkshire and Parts of London. Including Wimbledon, New Malden, Richmond and Twickenham.

We were contacted by a local company that needed 2 large London Plane Trees reduced in size.  They were located in a Conservation Area so approval was required to undertake the necessary works.

We made the application on behalf of our customer. Once we had received approval from the local council, we undertook the works on a Saturday, due to staff requiring the car parking spaces below the trees during the week.

The trees were touching parts of the building and completely shading all natural light from sections of the building.

The trees had been reduced in the past, therefore the best course of action was to reduce the crown back to the previous reduction points, leaving furnishing growth.  This reduces the chance of the tree going into shock growth.  Stripping the tree completely of its foliage (or pollarding as it is also known as) is a harsher process, that is sometimes necessary, but not in this case.

Please see images below showing the reduction in size and the amount of light that now penetrates the canopy.
